This is a magnetic mount so I can put it on my dash and easily remove it.
Here's the parts list and build log. Two pictures are attached. It works great!
I have an older van and mounted two washers steel (get ones a magnet will work with, close to the same diameter as the magnets). These are not in the parts list below.
Some soldering has to be done to get all the wiring nicely set up.
The feet are 3D printed and threaded to allow the magnets to be attached.
I attached the SketchUp file to this post so you can get them printed if you want. These were printed at 100% infill and threaded for 6-32 screws.

Installed version 15 of OpenAuto Pro
moved system openauto splash service to root's home dir # Disable it in an effort to improve boot time.
bwscursor show # This is not needed unless you are using a keyboard with the setup for some reason.

Added to /boot/config.txt:

Set DPI in Settings.Android Auto.Video to 96 # This only changes the layout. You should try with the original setting and the modified one. Record the original setting. I _think_ it was 140.
Disabled Clock on screen in Settings.Android Auto.System
Added "2>&1" to /usr/local/bin/openauto # This allows you to capture error as well as regular output in the log file.
Added to /etc/modprobe.d/raspi-blacklist.conf:
blacklist snd_bcm2835 # Disable default audio on the RPi
Open /lib/modprobe.d/aliases.conf and comment out the line "options snd-usb-audio index=-2" # enable the usb audio to work right.
