How phone could connect to its own hotspot? You must either create a hotspot on Raspberry PI or use any other external network credentials.
Ok, I´ll try again:
- Phone as a hotspot
- Conncect OpenAuto to that Hotspot (on the Phone!, The Phone would be the external WiFi-Source)
This should establish a working connection between the phone and the raspberry. If this would not built up a proper connection to OpenAuto... well, that is an issue wit OpenAuto.
But Ok. I tried with 3 different phones. Caterpillar S61, Blackberry KeyOne and Sony Xperia Z3 Mini.
All of them were connected to the Hotspot of Android Auto AND connected via Bluetooth. There was no way of starting Android Auto... "Android Auto is currently unavailable"
My Phones startet Android Auto, when BT connection was established, but OpenAuto did not react. I tried by connecting manually, and entered the IP of the phone -> same Error message.
Connection by USB is working without any issues... but I paid for wireless connection!
I already filed for a refund, and I expect a refund! Where is the promised detailed description and user manual? All I have is to figure out by myself and the PDF-User Guide ist not very helpful. Oh, for the MMI2G, I expected to have the information how to do so without asking for it, as it is advertised with this.
Come on, this software has potential, but without proper documentation, it is worthless. I don´t want to mess around with forums, for every little problem.
I could have uses an android-box with a wireless AnrdoisAuto dongle. But I didn´t want to mess around with settings and so on to get it in working condition. I expected OpenAuto to be plug and play... which it is not!
Looks like you totally misunderstood Wireless feature of Android Auto. For more information please refer to the Google documentation regarding Android Auto. There is no way to use phone that will serve Android Auto projection as a hotspot, because it needs to be connected to the wireless network as a client. That is not an issue with OpenAuto but the way how Wireless projection has been designed in Android Auto. Once again - how do you want to use your phone as an wireless network client (which is required by Android Auto) if you enable hotspot on it? It is technically impossible. We strongly recommend to read all necessary user guides (provided by Google) regarding Android Auto before you start using it.
Even with mentioned android box you will face the same issues just because phone that will serve Android Auto projection cannot be used as a hotspot. There is no head unit which supports that just because it is not the way how Android Auto handles wireless projection.
Please also explain in more details why did you assume that?
