basically what I did was, dumped all the images into Windows Movie Maker. Then exported them all into a single .mp4
Then used this to convert that into a .264

If I have a video file I want to use, will I need to loop it myself to suit the length of the boot sequence, or will it loop itself?

First file plays once, second file loops until OAP is loaded. Length of file doesn't matter much unless your first file is so long the system boots before the second one gets to play.

I just found my video in YouTube, added the spinning circle and extended the black background to create the looped second file. Then followed the instructions earlier in this post to convert it in Ubuntu.
