I am looking at working on a revision 2 of my current OAP project. Currently I have the system installed in my 1967 Mercury 100 truck and I've converted all my hvac controls to be controllable with servo motors and an application I made to operate them. The main issue I have right now is the amount of time it takes to switch from the media app to my HVAC application. Ive got the system running on a 7 inch touch screen but I would like to upgrade to a 10.1 (1024 x 600) inch and split the screen so that I can have the OAP application running maybe 1024 x 450 and my hvac application running the other 1024x150. Is this possible to configure?

There is no native support for this kind of feature.

If you have an RPi 4 you could use 2 screens easily enough.

One screen will open openautopro the other will open your app.

You can see what I'm doing in my videos, its a dashboard gauge cluster, but you could imagine it being your HVAC system etc.

I am working on a setup to do exactly the same as this. I want to have an area of the screen dedicated to the OpenAuto Pro main interface (which I will primarily just leave in Apple CarPlay) and another area of the screen with a custom UI to control the heating system and other car functions. I know from the YouTube example above that I can do this by having two screens plugged into my Raspberry Pi and build something custom.

I was looking to use QT for anything custom and I know from the user manual that the QT libraries are listed as one of the libraries used to by OpenAuto Pro, so it would be rather nice if there were a way of configuring this all in one place and be able to run this all on one large portrait touchscreen rather than needing to try and mount two smaller landscape touch screens (one above the other) with OpenAuto Pro running on one and my own custom QT setup on the other.

I have built a Raspi 4 stack with the following Hats:
    - relay hat to control heated seats, cabin fan, etc.
    - servo hat to control servos to control vent selection, heater matrix, etc.
    - DAC for high quality audio output to the amp.
    - CarPiHat for ODB connection and cabin/external temp sensors.

I also have a USB CarlinKit dongle for Apple CarPlay support.

It was dead easy getting OpenAuto Pro installed, CarPlay working and the DAC doing the audio output. Via terminal I have had no problem proving the functionality of the other HATs.

I am now at a point of being ready to configure the custom UI for all the touch screen ventilation controls but I need to understand if:
    - there is a way to do this in the way I want within OpenAuto Pro with a split screen configuration
    or
    - if I need to do it via two smaller landscape touchscreens both plugged into the same Raspi 4 operating in the same sort of way as the YouTube example above
    or
    - if I need to do it via two smaller landscape touchscreens each with their own Raspi 4 with one running OpenAuto Pro with the DAC Hat and USB dongle and the other with all the ventilation stuff

These are in my preference order as it would be much nicer and easier from the hardware point of view to have it all on a single Raspi and single touchscreen. The last is my least favourite as it would be nice to have features like speed sensitive volume control (quite important in a soft-top) which would be more work to achieve if the OBD interface is on a different Raspi from the one running the DAC.
