OpenAuto Pro will read button presses in both cases. The reason is very simple. When you watch a video using factory TV tuner and then you press any button on buttons panel, MMI 2G will hide the video stream and go back to the MMI 2G interface. OpenAuto Pro does not bypass connection between buttons panel and MMI 2G head unit - it listens signals from buttons panel simultaneously with MMI 2G head unit. There is no known way to avoid that using factory TV tuner.
You can still use factory TV tuner if you do not want to control OpenAuto Pro interface using factory buttons panel.

Its funny how other users are going through the same things like me.
This thread is about configuring OAP with Audi A8 MMI2G. I also own an Audi A6 4F with MMI2G, which i will replace by MMI3G in upcoming spring. All the installation is right here on my desk and I wanted to test OAP before I do anything on my car installation. My idea was the same as @OvivO, connect AOP with the AV inputs of the built-in TV tuner. Now I realized that the original button control of the Audi control panel will not work without the display switching unit. This annoys me a little, actually I wanted to do it without this additional device, because my built-in TV tuner can not receive DVBT-2 anyway, so it has nothing do do anymore. To buy such a display switching unit without beeing sure, that will work as well with MMI3G is to unsecure for me. And to install an additional touchscreen somewhere else in the car is not an option for me. So what? I have to consider to follow this really interesting project. So that is really a pity
