Camera and wiring - fraisdos125 - 01-19-2020

Hi,

I gonna to install the rear camera but I am lost for the cabling. 5/6 meters from the head unit to the camera, which solution do you recommend for the cabling ?
I tried with this "Arducam CSI to HDMI Cable Extension Module with 15pin 60mm FPC Cable for Raspberry Pi Camera Specific", it works for hdmi cables of some meters but not as long as I need.

Many thanks for your support.

Many thanks. Looks to be a little bit different than the one I have.
But, when looking at the device closer, I can see 3.3 V, GND. I wil see if there is a wiring on the device we can do to bring more power on it.

I keep you in touch.

I did fews tests with different HDMI cables and wiring on the device, configuration:
- 2, 5 & 10 meters cables. Some test with an adaptor to do 5+2 meters.
- 5MP OV5647 Fisheye Webcam 130/160 (works good but have to do troubleshooting with OAP...later :-))
- Arducam CSI to HDMI Cable Extension Module with 15pin 60mm FPC Cable

The CSI to HDMI is not the same than the one in the youtube link above. Then this link  https://wiki.batc.org.uk/CSI-2_to_HDMI doesn't help

It is all a matter of power brought to the camera and GND.
It is at least needed to connect the ground of the device connected to the camera to a ground of the rapsberry. This help a little bit.
The best is to supply 3.3V to the device connected to the camera.

Without this connection and a 5 meters cable: no video at all (tension on the device 2.2 V instead of 3.3V).
When connected to 3.3V, all good :-)

Adding a 2 meters long cable to the 5 meters long and it still works but signal not stable.

I will buy the same CSI to hdmi cables than the one in the youtube device, a official raspberry cam and do more tests !

Final round for this topic !:
MY advice : buy a high quality hdmi cable with CEC capability and will work out of box.

Now working good with a 7.5m long hdmi cable...my combi and I are happy !
