Custom splash causes long loading - Rhys_m - 12-09-2019

sometimes, not everytime, the custom splash video seems to stutter massively, this then delays the start up for what can be like 3 minutes whilst the animation runs at 1 frame every 10 seconds. I thought it may be an RC bug, but with the latest 4.0 also seems the same. Are there any known limitations to the video file?

RE: custom splash causes loooong load - BlueWave - 12-09-2019

Does it occur only in case of custom splash screen video or also with stock one? Could you please describe how did you prepare video files for your splash screen or upload it somewhere for further analysis? Splash screen functionality uses h264 codec embedded in VideoCore GPU so the most probably reason might be wrong encoding of the custom splash screen video. Another cause might be corruption of SD card.

Also please post content of /boot/config.txt file if there were any modifications.

Having the same problems. Occasionally booting takes significantly longer.

I have the same problem since 3.3.2 RC

Please answer to our questions from second post. Without answering it is impossible to investigate the issue...

Will report once I upgrade to OAP 4.0, will leave stock splash screen.
Just to clarify, i had the same problem both with rpi3b+ and rpi4b.
But I can't say that I would notice any fps drop, splash screen seems to work as usual, it just takes 3 times longer than usual. This only happens once every 10ish boots.

For me it occurs on every boot, I tried only with stock one. I'll make some testing tonight.

Did you try with another SD card?

seems to be only in the case of custom splash, I have attached the video in mp4 format, was converted using this command

ffmpeg -i fileName.mp4 -an -vcodec libx264 -crf 23 fileName.h264

/boot/config.txt is pretty much default only has these changes:

added

#CAN bus controllers
dtoverlay=mcp2515-can0,oscillator=16000000,interrupt=25
dtoverlay=spi-bcm2835-overlay

and this uncommented:

dtparam=spi=on

running on an rpi4 4gb, official screen, samsung sd card

The strange thing is that it doesnt happen everytime. I did notice yesterday, that open auto does actually boot in the background, music plays when phones connected, but video is still on the screen at super slow framerate

edit:

files too large at 2mb

Looks like ffmpeg has problems to convert that mp4 video to the raw h264 stream. After usage of Flowblade software seems that problem is not reproducible anymore. Could you please test the splash video from here http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=24553312625820921957?
