Hello all,
I finally got a semi working solution installed in one of the family vehicles. Unfortunately, I am noticing noise on the audio line. It is very loud and really interferes with trying to use the device. This is bad for the wife approval . I was Googling around and searching on this forum, I believe I have created a ground loop. A few things to note, I did not experience any noise when testing on my workbench and only in the car. I also can hear the noise change depending on if the raspberry pi is turning on, running, shutting down or off. I noticed that with or without the AMP I still get noise, the AMP just makes it louder. I'm really trying to understand where my ground loop is. My initial thought was that the 12V to 5V regulator ground was causing it but that was not the case when I tested bypassing that ground. Otherwise all other grounds come back to the 12V Battery from the car so they should be not causing the loop. If I had to wager a guess, there is a problem with the way I've wired the AMP or the USB hub. Although bypassing the regulator ground didn't fix it so maybe it really is the AMP and how that fits into the circuit? I'm at a loss, any help would be appreciated.
