I am hoping someone can help me out. I am a noob to Raspberry Pi and have been spending hours every day, over the past week, to try and figure all of these technical things out. I figured it's time to ask for help.
I came across this thread: https://bluewavestudio.io/community/thre...l#pid10504
It is essentially the same exact year, make, and model of the car I'm trying to integrate. I think his build is fantastic and I want to do the same exact thing, but I can't tell what everything is, how it's all wired together, and how to replicate it.
It seems that he might no longer be active on this site so I'm reaching out to the community. Is anyone able to look at this and tell what exactly he did? My main specific questions are:
1 - What are all the hardware components, cables, connections, etc that are there? I am really confused about the CAN interface that the VGA dongle is connected to as I don't know what that is or where I can find that. Is that how he's getting the video signal so the screen? Does it looks like he used a dongle that upscaled the resolution?
2 - How are they all wired together? What cables are going where? How is the RCA implemented in this?
3 - How did he integrate the touchscreen to the hardware? What kind of connections/cables, etc are needed for that?
4 - It looks like he may not have used a safe power-down. I want to integrate that into my setup, but it seems that all of the ones that people have used (BWS CAR PS, CarPiHAT, etc) have been discontinued. If I try to integrate something that I have to do more work with like here: https://bluewavestudio.io/community/thread-3323.html :will that work for this setup? Is there an easier way?
5 - I will need to get the Apple CarPlay dongle and software as well. That shouldn't be an issue for this setup, correct?
6 - I think I've seen a couple of things on here about making sure the hardware doesn't overheat in the car - is there a simple way to configure that? Has anyone had issues with hardware overheating when parked out in the sun in 100+ degree weather or similar?
I know this is a lot, but I am really trying to understand all this. I am savvy with car repairs, intalling aftermarket radios/double din's, installing things like Naviks or Navtools, but this has been a challenge because I'm not a computer programmer or anything near it. I am a fast learner, though, so I know I can do this. Just gotta figure out all the details.
Thank you for taking a look! Hopefully one of you can help me out.
