Booting additional program on boot, how without crashing OA?

I have Tunerstudio installed on my Pi as well as Openauto and I'd like it to auto launch during bootup. I tried using a couple techniques such as LXDE and when I did the LXDE arrangement it blocked openauto from finishing booting so I needed to start over. What is a safe way to auto boot a program in this environment so it all boots up smoothly? I am very inexperienced in linux so any direction is appreciated.

I came across this trying to figure out a similar thing but running TD dash beta and this works perfectly with that as well
