Hi all!
Though I would share my OAP built. Have had one variant of the built running for about a year but wanted to fix a few issues that I ran into and expand.
My setup consisted of:
1)RP 4b 4gb variant + modified heatsink and fan
2)USB 3.1 hub HAT for extra 4 ports
3)CarPIHAT power management
4)Waveshare 10.4" IPS screen
5)USB 3.1 HUB in arm rest (for mouse, keyboard)
6)Samsung FIT 256g flash drive for boot and storage
7)Generic USB audio dac
8)Generic USB video capture
My first build ended up looking something close to factory on the honda legend (KB1):
Backend did not look that nice but was functional:
It worked but the old 8" screen was too deep in and i would have to lean to much also the OEM bezzle was smaller than the 8" so touch area was from plastic to plastic meaning that pressing something near the edge did not works.
Second build looked back on using the OEM screen partly as on the legend the screen also is part of the Ga-Net gateway.
Just fitting the AOP system to I got something like this :
Next up was to build a 3d model of the new exterior case for the display:
As it was too big for my printer ended up printing it in 2 parts:
Testfit looked something like this. Also repainted the dash as did not like the brown color of the dash
Internals were powered from OEM display board so I also build a custom adapter to take OEM RGB video signal from honda NAV and convert it to RCA. Yes quality is not the best but this would let me be able to use OEM climate control via display and also have access to other functions.
The end result looks something like this:
The CarPIHat helped to configure shutdown and is able to power the screen and all the HAT-s with no problem also internal fan for my unit is powered via that.
Audio as mentioned is a generic USB dac with Mic in and Audio out. Audio goes to a CD bypass converter so am also able to use OEM radio if needed.
Future plans are to use the CarpiHat CAN line and setup a CAN sniffer to maybe be able to get some more features in the future or at least more data from the car
