    Hi guys,

Would it be possible to trigger rear view camera not by GPIO but by detecting the presence of the video signal?
Currently I'm using an analog camera connected to a stand alone analog display. The camera gets powered when the car is put in reverse and the monitor turns on when it detects the signal from the camera.
The idea is to avoid running additional wires along the car and also an additional relay for GPIO triggering.

    Thanks!

You just need to find reverse light switch that's usually located at shift knob, or find reverse light fuse at the fuse box.

Actually I know how to do it hardwired-wise but this is what I'm trying to avoid: wires and relay. The camera is already installed and powered directly from the rear light bulb. The signal cable is routed under the dashboard so I only have to connect it to the EasyCap USB device. The only missing part with this setup is the trigger which needs additional wires and a relay. This issue might be over-passed if the video signal presence/absence can be somehow detected by software.

You can always write your own script which will perform exactly what you want and at the end will simulate change on GPIO. It can be independent form OAP.

    Hi Daniel!

You are right, a custom script will do the job! The hard part is to figure out what to write in that script. Honestly, I have no clue about how I can check if there is any signal on a video input device and I was wondering if anyone on this forum has any idea.
