During the weekend there was a lot of work done, with some setbacks, I'll probably go into details about those later, but the harness between the headunit and the extra parts I'll install is done and should work. I intentionally left all the cables a little too long as I'm not exactly sure how long cables I'll need and it's easier to put the extra cable somewhere, than lengthening the cables in the car. The picture below shows what kind of inputs and outputs are connected to the various parts.
At the moment the Noctua fan which cools the Raspberry Pi is connected to one of the 12V outputs on the CarPiHAT PRO so it can be turned on/off, might connect the PWM pin as well. I plan to connect a temp sensor to the I2C port to measure cabin temps. The jack output on the CarPiHAT PRO is planned to be connected to the CD charger emulator which is on the headunit.
The Raspberry Pi4 USB connectors will be used for the touchscreen, the modem, the Raspberry Pi Pico and the USB hub, HDMI0 is connected to the screen.
The unit which replaces the original power supply contains the Raspberry Pi Pico, the motor driver and the step-down converter(for the motor driver) connected together by a simple custom circuit and the following connections are made to that unit:
