Still not fixed. I don't think it's a Android auto problem. If I open the AA app without plugging the USB in and say ok Google the assistant pops up and I can do commands as soon as I connect it to the head unit and do the same the assistant pops up after saying ok Google but then seems to freeze.

I have identical problem.
He recoginzed OK Google but nothing else. I have conneted phone to two device bluetooth: raspberry usb bluetooth and audi original bluetooth. I can streaming audio from phone to raspberry and speak . Thanks alot!! These Steps helped me:
Head to the desktop. Tap (Raspberry Pi Icon) > Sound and Video > PulseAudio Volume Control Tap "Input Devices" Click the Green Tick right next to the lock of the item you wish to make default I muted the phone microphone. And choose another profile as default now it's working. I also have Bluetooth connected to the raspi and original land Rover radio and it works fine ( dual audio) thanks hope this will help others to

It looks like I need to do this every time the raspi lost power. Is there a way to set this permanent?
