One big concern is that you have to modify kernel in order to use i2s in the RPI. This can cause some unexpected issues with audio i.e. using it in parallel with HiFiBerry stuff. Maybe you do not have to modify kernel? Let us know your impression how this HW works.

The problem for me is the use of the hifiberry.

Well you can also use an external USB soundcard for audio output and use the DABBOARD as I2S input OR You can use an USB soundcard as input and connect the 3.5 mm jack from the DABBOARD to it and use an I2S hifiberry or other for the audio output

A custom overlay (and maybe kernel) is not the problem i think, because you guys ship the whole image. Parallel with hifiberry or other I2S devices is not possible i think, than you should use an USB soundcard.

Same here. I bought the HiFiBerry as it was what it seemed like everyone was recommending when I was doing my research on sound cards.

The big problem for me is, i design my own mainboard right now, where i can put a pi on top. As this pcb gets more and more complicated i need to decide which way to go. Right now the sound goes from pi to dac via i2s. So if i would use the dabboard, id have to redesign things. Also got a usb sound card on the board for mic input. Edit: Cant find a tiny and simple usb soundcard with stereo line in. Any ideas?

Already got something like that for mic input. But i'm talking about stereo line in.
