I hope a hardware solution is only on the back burner and not completely off the table. I'd also be interested in the ability to tune the digital stations that are now available. Presently, I dont have a way to listen to those other broadcasts. Count me in as someone that would pay more for a combined hardware software solution for over the air radio.

Could you explain why you are no longer pursuing FM radio? From the survey results, it appeared the majority of OAP users wanted this feature (85% of respondents) With a majority saying they would pay between 20-$35 and even more saying they would pay $35-50. Just not understanding why have the survey, and then decide to go against the majority? The interest is there for this feature. FM radio was a feature that I've been waiting on for months (as it was mentioned as a feature that was being developed), it's something that I use every day and a requirement. I can't rely on streaming/tethering from my phone 100% of the time. You've made mention in the past that you did not want to pursue SDR option as the PI is already bogged down. Is the intent of OAP to still be a full head unit replacement? Without FM, that's not really possible.

By majority you mean potential 37 users?! Survey was the last step in our project planning and costs estimation. We did the math and it does not have any sense for us to develop our own product. If you are so sure about this product just invest your money. We can even give you a contact to our HW engineer and feel free to sign a contract with him to develop this solution. We will be more than happy to buy it from you.

Wow that's a very rude and unprofessional response from a company about a planned feature that you asked for feedback on. I was simply asking for you to explain why you had a survey, where the majority of the respondents said they wanted the feature you were asking in the survey about, and your conclusion was to not pursue the feature that you had asked us about. In past posts you have said that SDR was not something you wanted to do, because quote " So after reading a very short blog post, that is about a sentence long that basically says 'we are not going to pursue a hardware solution and will maybe go the SDR path in the future' Brings up questions. Maybe instead of attacking your customers when they ask questions about your statements, take the time to explain what you mean and answer the questions. This is a paid product now, and people have spent money, FM radio was a feature you have been talking about since October something that has been asked by your customers of a feature they wanted. So when you release a statement that goes against past statements, it brings up questions. I have been supportive of your product and appreciate the work that has been done up to this point, but replying with a snarky reply is not a good look for you or your company. Remember, your customer are what will make your product succeed or fail we are the ones that pass the word on about your product.

The thing is that developing an off-board FM radio solution from the ground up is not cheap for a small company like bluewave. We'd probably need backing from a more established hw develpment house to design a 3rd party hw add-on for us. There's tons of shops in China that do this sort of thing, so I think it's not outside the realm of possibility.

The Si4688 should do the job, maybe there are more boards with this chip. You can use FM/DAB with it and use it as an I2S device.

The only thing is that you cannot use an other i2s device (soundcard etc)
