Thanks for the answer and hint. I have AMI, can there be such a module?

Yes, it should work.

Would anyone be able to explain to me more precisely what I need, and where do I need to climb? In a private message. Best regards Kamil I like how Open Auto Pro functions on those videos, but have an analog TV tuner with two AV inputs and I want to get it working via that factory tuner. Is there a major obstacle not to? Factory navigation I might be ready to sacrifice (with factory tv tuner that's not going to be necessary). Basically if the car has TV Tuner, new components shall be: PI, MAX3232 converter. Auto-switching to Open Auto Pro perhaps would not work by single press of a button (NAV), but it's fairly easy to switch to AV1 or AV2 from TV Tuner sources. Just go to CD, Sources and select. Then if driver wants to switch back to any MMI section - it's a single press of a button. If one wants to control Open Auto Pro by touch screen, I think PI has natural support of touch screen panel, say a 7" capacitive touch panel to match size of MMI display. That's would be an extra. MMI central console would still function as on those videos online you guys are posting, as we would still connect pin16 from Headunit to MAX3232, right? Here is your scheme in case factory TV Tuner is present, could you think of a reason not to get things working and any drawbacks? Thanks.

If you want to display video from Raspberry PI using factory TV tuner then there is no way to make OpenAuto Pro work with factory buttons panel. You can use touch panel then.
Using factory buttons panel is possible only when you are going to use LVDS video adapter. MAX3232 converter is needed only to connect factory buttons panel to the Raspberry PI. You do not need it if you are going to use e.g. touch panel or any other device (e.g. external keyboard) to control OpenAuto Pro interface.

Thanks for quick reply.
Factory buttons panel is anyway connected to Headunit. We would connect PIN16 to MAX3232 to convert and translate button presses to the PI. Direct connection of MAX3232 to the LVDS adapter is described as optional only just in case LVDS can auto-switch sources? I still can't figure out why PI connected to the LVDS directly - panel buttons would work. PI connected to the TV Tuner - panel buttons would not work? Why? TV tuner transmits video over fakra to the fbas connector on headunit and audio via optical bus, the only not supported feature should be auto-switching by pressing NAV button? Please reply to this post to clarify it for myself as I really count on tight integration and using factory buttons, that makes a huge difference compared to any other external media I might use. Quote:Direct connection of MAX3232 to the LVDS adapter is described as optional only just in case LVDS can auto-switch sources? Yes. OpenAuto Pro will forward press of desired button (e.g. NAV or NAME) which will trigger LVDS adapter to switch video source. Quote:I still can't figure out why PI connected to the LVDS directly - panel buttons would work. PI connected to the TV Tuner - panel buttons would not work? Why? OpenAuto Pro will read button presses in both cases. The reason is very simple. When you watch a video using factory TV tuner and then you press any button on buttons panel, MMI 2G will hide the video stream and go back to the MMI 2G interface. OpenAuto Pro does not bypass connection between buttons panel and MMI 2G head unit - it listens signals from buttons panel simultaneously with MMI 2G head unit. There is no known way to avoid that using factory TV tuner. You can still use factory TV tuner if you do not want to control OpenAuto Pro interface using factory buttons panel.

[/quote] Its funny how other users are going through the same things like me. This thread is about configuring OAP with Audi A8 MMI2G. I also own an Audi A6 4F with MMI2G, which i will replace by MMI3G in upcoming spring. All the installation is right here on my desk and I wanted to test OAP before I do anything on my car installation. My idea was the same as @OvivO, connect AOP with the AV inputs of the built-in TV tuner. Now I realized that the original button control of the Audi control panel will not work without the display switching unit. This annoys me a little, actually I wanted to do it without this additional device, because my built-in TV tuner can not receive DVBT-2 anyway, so it has nothing do do anymore. To buy such a display switching unit without beeing sure, that will work as well with MMI3G is to unsecure for me. And to install an additional touchscreen somewhere else in the car is not an option for me. So what? I have to consider to follow this really interesting project. So that is really a pity Best regrads Rudi

Quote:Its funny how other users are going through the same things like me. true I was there 2 years ago gathering components to test, until the need for the LVDS switch was revealed and like you did not see the point investing in that kit. I did get this working (of sorts) in a Q7, using the AV inputs for image/sound and switching from Nav/Radio to the pi using the Media MMI button. The pi could then be controlled by a capacitive touchscreen overlay, well that was the theory. A8s have reasonable space/access to fit the overlay. Q7 and probably A6 is very limited - screen fits ok but the ribbon cable/USB controller board has so little room (mine broke on reinstall). Other big drawbacks: - Q7 bezel is deep recess so touch on edge of screen (ie top nav bar) is very difficult and is far away from your hand - Audi 2G Screen resolution is rubbish - OAP home screen and a few apps are ok, but details for navigation etc are lacking If you're upgrading to 3G (and getting the better display) there are dedicated solutions to integrate AA with the full MMI control. Me, sadly I gave up, I use an Audi AMI/bluetooth stream and mount my phone in a holder...

Hi, is it possible to make some detailed guide for, and what exactly parts is needed?

Actually is missing audio optical adapter.
Тhis project is great and i started repeating it in my car. another question, can be added another analog input sensor(0-5v) to screen with obd dial too? Im rocky with raspberry, but learn fast. |
