Greets All!
My wife and I are leaving on vacation to the White Mountains of Arizona tomorrow. Rewind back about a week where I had this ingenious idea of creating a HD RADIO / CARPUTER. Since that lightbulb exploded over my head, I have crawled down more rabbit holes than I would like to remember. Or can remember. Just when I was at wit's-end, I discovered OpenAuto Pro. I didn't even know it existed until today. It would not matter except I was looking at how I was going to tie Navit, VNC, and other features together into a GUI. Well, the realization was that it would take me weeks, maybe months to code that.
So saved? Well maybe... Before I even checked the boxes, I ordered the retail version, and just got it by the way. VERY fast. THANK YOU! But then the questions started popping up. I mean, I just spent the weekend figuring out how to get GPS piped from my phone to my RPI4, and using GPSD, making that available to Navit. I STILL had music playback, OBDII, Phone Calls, and other stuff to solve. Oh, and HD Radio which I solved with a library and a RTL-SDR. Now I am checking those boxes and relieved that it has been addressed, and at LEAST marginally supported.
The only issue I have to solve now is bluetooth. I did not try it yet, but I am guessing my Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is not going to play well with the built-in bluetooth on the RPI4. So I FINALLY found a post here where the Panda BT4.0 dongle is recommended. Problem is, I order it on Amazon and it gets delivered tomorrow. Since I am usually the longest part of their routes, it arrives by 10pm, or close to it. I'm leaving by 2pm. So I reached out to them and set up a "possibility" to hook up with the driver and get is earlier.
Of course, when I get it, there are no guarantees. So I do not want to have this device placed, with dongle plugged in, and trying to jump through software hoops via a terminal to get it right. SO I am hoping someone here can link me the posts here that help to get that set up.
Just wanted to share this. I have high expectations and am very hopeful! Hopefully this will work as expected, and I can tweak it during my stay in the mountains, in-between short trips to the Little Colorado and some fishing for German Trout!
I will post more when I get this all together, and hopefully working during the ELEVENTH HOUR! lol
Thanks!
