Greetings.
I have been trying to improve the stability and reliability of the internet connection for Pi and openauto.
I first started with WiFi hot spot connection using the wpa_supplican.conf of Pi to connect to the iPhone Hotspot SSID, but the iPhone has an annoying feature were it only broadcasts and accepts connections for a short time, and then it sleeps the feature.
I decided to try the USB connection, which is working well.
On Pi, install the required supporting software:
sudo apt-get install usbmuxd
After running the install, connect the iPhone to a USB data port, and when prompted "Trust" the Pi computer. (Note: I use a power hub - not required)
Now when you have the iPhone feature "Personal Hotspot" enabled, and the iPhone unlocked, Pi should automatically get access to the internet through the USB port without WiFi SSID connection issues.
If you set the iPhone (Settings -> Display & Brightness - > Auto-Lock = Never) you should be able to use your iPhone as a dedicated USB celular internet connection without having to touch the phone.
Thank you
Justin
