Hello. This is my first post. I will do my best to explain why I am here.
I think I have finally gathered the required hardware for my desired setup. I am going to use this thread to post progress and seek advice since I am new to nearly all aspects of this project. This project is going to involve a lot of learning on my end, so please be patient.
I am installing in a 2005 Toyota Tacoma and I want to maintain use of the existing Alpine CD head unit. My plan is to run the audio from the OpenAuto Pro head unit through an Audioquest Dragonfly to the Aux. input on the Alpine. I would also like to implement a BMW E60 iDrive controller, and add a back up camera in the future.
Here is the hardware I have gathered so far:
If you've been kind enough to read through all of this, do you have any obvious bits of wisdom you think I should know about before proceeding?
Does my plan make sense overall?

Here is the hardware I have gathered so far:
- Raspberry Pi 7" touchscreen
- Raspberry Pi 4
- CarPiHat (I know that this allows easier integration in the vehicle, but I have no idea how to implement it)
- Audioquest Dragonfly Red (for audio out)
- Panda 4.0 Bluethooth USB
- TROND External USB Audio Adapter Sound Card (for mic. in)
- E60 iDrive controller
- CQRobot Ambient Light Sensor w/ Built-in TSL25911FN chip
- And an assortment of general hardware like USB flash drives, wireless keyboard, etc.
If you've been kind enough to read through all of this, do you have any obvious bits of wisdom you think I should know about before proceeding?
