Rear View Camera not working [SOLVED]
#11
Let's summarize everything.

Did you enable camera in raspi-config tool?
Is the camera preview visible with Finder backend?
Is the camera preview visible with Finder backend with resolution set to 1280x720?
Is the camera preview visible with V4L2 backend?
Does the camera work with raspivid?
Did you do any modifications of /boot/config.txt file by hand?

I hope this information helps you to make the right choice for you.

Hello Milton,

Can you please provide us the exact components that you used to make it work?
It is one of the most asked question concerning rear camera as all rca to usb converter doesn't works nativly with OAP.

Thanks in advance

As of version 12 you can use your own script or program (e. g. vlc or raspivid) to show video from the rear camera. Please have a look at configuration description https://bluewavestudio.io/community/showthread.php?tid=2042&pid=12046#pid12046

I had to Set Backend Type to "Finder" and use 1280 x 720 resolution using Raspi Cam v2.

I only get a black screen when the camera is activated by using the rear view camera tile in Open Auto Pro or by triggering it in Android Auto using a GPIO.

The camera is an official Raspberry Pi v2 and has been registered in Raspbian.

I have tested the camera in Terminal using "raspivid -f -t 10000" and the camera works fine.

Help would be appreciated

For those who are having this issue, after hours of searching through the forum and testing all kind of solutions, finally solved the issue!

Hardware:
  • Raspberry Pi 4 4gb
  • Pi Camera V2 (Official)
The problem is that the gpu_mem is not correctly configured. Although it seems to be 256M when you look at the raspberry pi config (either cli or gui), it is not. If you check the /boot/config.txt file at the end you'll see that [pi4] has not set a gpu_mem value so it is 76M by default.

When you run raspivid outside OAP it almost always works because those 76M are enough with out the OAP interface in foregound, but when you access through the Rear Camera button in OAP it just shows black screen (because v4l2 server has not enough memory to start).

I suppose that this problem is Pi4 only since other devices already have a right value in /boot/config.txt and specially related with camera v2 because of its higher resolution (more memory needed).

Steps to solve:
  1. sudo nano /boot/config.txt
  2. Go to the end of the file and add gpu_mem=256 under the [pi4]
  3. Save the file and sudo reboot
  4. Everything should word now Smile
I hope I had help someone.

All the best
