Good luck, I din't get the microphone to work with the Sound Blaster Play. Maybe it works now because OAP works with a newer pulsaudio version.

The sound Blaster Play 2 has to have a specific 3.5 mm plug in order to work correctly. Mine was working fine once i got an adapter for my mic. The Sound Blaster Play 3 on the other hand, i could not get working correctly. I wanted something that offered better audio quality which is why i got the hifiberry.
The adapter was a 4 pin to 3 pin 3.5 mm adapter plug that i plugged the microphone into then the adapter into the Sound Blaster.

My issue was not the wrong adapter, my microphone works out of the box with the Sound Blaster Play but I have had always a feedback, because the microphone was always on.
