Hi,
I just wanted to say that this platform is excellent. Thank you to the author(s)!!! I have been working with OpenAuto PRO for a day and its a breeze to configure. Even the rear camera. Got everything configured, phone hooked up, Bluetooth speaker, USB Sound Card, Mic, etc... All in breakneck speed.
I am building a custom head unit for my golf cart. It is a custom EZGO TXT w/ a 600amp Navitas TAC2 AC controller, Navitas 5kw AC Inductive motor, soon to be 72v (currently 48v) of lead-acid batteries, 6" Jakes Long Travel lift kit, Jake's front hydraulic disc brakes and rear drum braking (soon to be mechanical disc brakes) and is programmed to go 38mph currently. (Going faster is possible but, I need to do some work on the suspension to safely go over 38mph.)
I have a few ESP32s that will run all my sensors and FastLED enabled light kits via WIFI to the PI which include:
- 18 thermal sensors... one on each battery post.
- 9 individual voltage sensors... one for each battery.
- 800amp current sensor... for monitoring the amp draw from the batteries to the controller.
- Custom-built Neopixel light kits for under cart lighting, dash lighting, and headlights and taillights.
- Thermal sensors on the differential to monitor diff oil temp.
- A gas sensor under the seat by the batteries to check hydrogen gas level and acid levels discharged from the use of the cart and charging. (Warn you if they are too high and dangerous!)
- Integration of all the 5v elements of the cart... throttle voltage, F/R, NFC/Biometric key, etc...
I was building a custom interface using a Nextion display but, decided to move to the PI4 as it is just easier to build UIs than with the Nextion. For simple displays you can do a lot with a Nextion display but, it was getting too crazy to deal with the UI. Came across OpenAuto PRO in my web searches and got me thinking... Why not have a proper interface?
OpenAuto PRO has just relieved me of so much fiddling with my Nextion display and has provided a pile of functionality (rear cam, Android Auto!!!, and Raspian OS!!!) that I would have never bothered to do myself or could have even done with the Nextion display!!!
Integration of external apps! Yes! So much easier to write a proper user interface on a PI4 w/ a proper touch screen!
Thank you for all the engineering effort put into making this so easy to do!
