Hi, we are form South Africa and have a Citroen C2 VTR. We had a tablet running Android installed in the vehicle in a custom housing, but as all know a cellphone or tablet battery can go through just so many cycles. We did run it from the direct power and used only the battery when the tablet was in sleep mode with the ignition of.
So you got this Raspberry Pi3+B with the official touch screen from my son when he immigrated. After much reading and googling I started experimenting with the Raspberry Pi, trying to run Android on it but to no avail. I wanted to use Android basically to run my Sygic navigation software and Torque pro to monitor certain functions of the car. I did run these on the tablet.
But after many attempts with different versions of Android I put the whole idea on hold, until I stumble upon Blue Wave and their OpenAuto pro software. I bought the software and started experimenting with it and found out that its actually a nice user friendly piece of software.
I removed the old tablet form the custom housing i had built and installed the 7" screen from Pi. I used an extended ribbon cable and power cable from the screen to the Raspberry Pi in the glove box compartment. The screen was installed and the Raspberry Pi fitted in the glove box and tested. Everything is working like a dream, only a few things that have to be sorted. I am running the Pi from a 12v to 5v converter, but still have to shut down the Pi manually before switching of the Ignition. ( have read all the options on the shutdown of power in the forum, but dont know which on to use)
I am also going to use the mirroring of the software to run a phone from where I could run the Torque pro app and the navigation app. ( did some testing and is working excellent, just need to fix the screen of the phone).
I also replaced the start up screen with my own H264 file that i made and edited myself.
Will keep you up to date on the progress with the rest of the software and functions.
