his is just to sum up all the work I did to my headunit replacement in my car.
this is now finished as far as I know, not much I can/need/want to do with it.
I was surprised how incredible good was the fittment of the official 7" touchscreen.
first let me go trough hardware:
- raspberry pi4b 4gb
- official 7" touchscreen
- 4-channel amp
- ground loop isolator
- usb soundcard
- powered usb hub
- 12V to 5V 4x usb converter
- 2x 5pin 12V relay
- 5V delay relay
- ...
as for the software Im obviosly using OAP image, with some additional scripts so it fits my needs.
for shutdown and powerup and delayed shutdown Im using "my" 3 relay system, and it is working perfect for me (despite few having problems making it run)
i mostly use KODI for playing music when I drive to work, store, etc. my music is loaded to SD card, in KODI I have "party mode" addon, so the music is autoplayed at startup. I allso use "send kodi command" installed, so I can control KODI function from terminal (in my case with script.sh from safe shutdown), to play/pause if anything is playing.
when going on a longer trips I mostly use AndroidAuto part od the system for navigating and for listening to live radio for traffic announcements.
Currently I want to somehow send "pause & minimise" KODI when I plug in my phone, and "maximise & play" KODI when I disconnect my phone (basicly when AA starts that kodi would pause and minimize, and when AA stops/disconnects that KODI would maximise and play on)
here are some more pictures of my project.
here is the volume knob where original digital clock used to be:
here you can see photoresistor for brightness control.
this is where I got the "how to do it": https://github.com/dandydanny/PiAutoDim
some much needed active cooling (using 12V 40mm fan):
here you can see the relay wirring mess (actually its fairly simple to wire up "my" 3 relay safe shutdown system):
12V to 5V 5A converter with 4x usb out:
here you can see how i prepared my car (white connectors are for A/C, clock, hazzards and have nothing to do with headunit)
in my glove box is usb soundcard and usb hub:
usb gps dongle (used only for time sync)
finnished product in my car:
some videos I made:

so thats my setup.
all the scripts that Im using are allready described on this forum
