As not knowing how it works: Is it possible to use a dongle fitted to my car keyring and use this? So as long as my key is in/near the car OAP is running? Perhaps I forget my mobile phone but not the keys

Maybe part of that is possible. You would have to write some software for it. You could likely develop some code that would use Bluetooth to roughly detect how close a BTLE/BLE beacon on a keychain is. That code could have logic to decide your keychain is too far away and shutdown your Pi. Figuring out how to turn your Pi back on seems like a tougher problem to solve. You'd need some sort of other device which always has power and is always running that would be able to detect the proximity of that keychain and then send a signal (probably shorting pins 5 [GPIO 3] and 6 [GND] on the Pi or maybe using Wake-on-LAN) to boot the Pi up again. This will not exactly be easy, but with enough effort and additional hardware, it's possible.

What he said lol. but I remember someone on this thread I think, used there door lock. if you have your keys then this would work. once I get a car that I can put this in this was my plan.
Side note, I totaled 2 cars in 8 days. Both of these cars were candidates when I started this project. Then bought a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I dont want to get into replacing the head unit on it yet. still has warranty.
