I'd love to try it out. Let me know if you need a beta-tester. I just purchased a license, and I'll spread the word regarding OAP! My setup will be mostly monitor to AUX output. Actually, if possible I'd like to hide the volume buttons, I'd rather just have it at "max" (or max without distortion) and use volume controller on stereo for my project. Edit, feature request: Actually, as my car (electric) doesn't have a battery percentage bar, just "1/4", "1/2" etc gauge, I'd love it if it was possible to show some OBD data rather than the volume controller, and have volume just as a setting. Having a phone-style battery meter with percentage for the car would be kinda fun Volume could be a button which then opens a volume +/- bar (think Apple MacBook touch-bar)

I'm clicking refresh just hoping for a CarPlay version drop.
Are there any parts we need to source separately? Maybe we can get those ordered in advance? Justin

Thank you Justin ----------- Welp, it arrived same day. That was fast. Is this a USB2.0 device?

I didn't know if I would ever be able to have CarPlay with OAP and this is a great way to attract 50% more users to the OAP product. Thank you to everyone to bring it to market. On to the feedback. 1. The e-mail instructions for downloading via curl is a little vague. I needed to add --output bws_autobox_plugin.zip to save local. It would be good to let people know to NOT unzip the file (which fails). I just happened to try selecting the downloaded zip in the plugin setup, and it worked. The License key serial number in the e-mail has lower case letters, which are not lower case on the keypad UI when entering the numbers. I really would have liked a copy/paste ability in VNC for the serial number text field, as this number is quite big to type in manually. 2. Not sure how to get in and out of car play. The option to show the OAP bar at the top gives access to the volume control (good) but there is no apparent way to get out of CarPlay unless you go to the phone and disconnect? 3. (probably #1 really) I'm using a 1920x1200 pixel screen, and I'm seeing pixelated garbage at the bottom of my screen - I don't see a way to get rid of that. 4. Apps select on right? Can we move that to the left side? 5. For me it is using both the BT and WiFi connection at the same time. I'm not sure if that matters, but it was interesting. I can still remote in with VNC, but the screen is blank - except for the top bar - so that is interesting. Not sure what network I'm VNCing into. 6. What USB speed is this for? I'm running it connected to USB2.0 and that seems to be fine. Thanks again. Please let me know if there is a screen resolution work around. I'll give this a try in the car and see what the touch screen does. Justin

I tried out a 1920x1080, and a Dual Screen 1920x1080. This is working much better. Turns out the garbled pixels at the bottom of the screen at 1980x1200 have really important controls :-). so at the lower resolution, the GUI is working.
Now I see how you can navigate and select different views, locate all the apps. - I mean - Car Play is pretty neat. I found how to get back to OAP, now that I can scroll through the UI. I still don't know if I can get the shortcuts on the left. I did play music through Apple Music, (with some features blocked from completely working) and then switch back to OAP, launch retropie, play Donkey Kong while also listening to Space IBIZA. This is the first time I heard OAP mix all the audio together without going to complete static, so - that's good!

The features in Car Play are working well, even audio after toggling back to OAP is working well. The implementation is pretty good apart from the limited video resolution. I am very impressed. I tried wired as well as wireless - with and without auto-connect. (auto connect is pretty great). Auto quality good, Wayze is fabulous, running podcasts, SomaFM, Maps, SIRI messaging - Phone support. It's all there!
Can't wait to take a drive. |
