Crackling sound - Matthias - 03-26-2021

Hi,

In android auto I experience a crackling sound. Similar to https://bluewavestudio.io/community/showthread.php?tid=2294

In normal bluetooth mode (no AA), the sound is perfect. No problems at all. With android auto (wireless as well as wired) the sounds start to crackle and pop.
It seems like as soon as AA takes over audio from spotify (incoming message, navigation instruction, ...), the crackling starts. I tried also different apps than spotify, but same result.

Strange thing is that it works perfect in OpenAuto itself.

Someone experienced already similar problems?

Looks like some performance issues on the phone side. Could you check AA on other phone?

RE: Crackling sound - Matthias - 03-26-2021

Hi Daniel,

I will give it a try tomorrow. In the past, it has worked without the crackling sound and the same phone. I don't notice any performance issues on the phone while connected to AA.

I will also try AA in another car (that has AA built in) next week. If it has the same problem, we can conclude that it has something to do with the phone.

Hi,

I gave it a try with a oneplus3. Exact the same issue. No noticeable performance issues on both the phones.

Is it possible to test you setup with other brand than OnePlus?

I am having that same issue under OAP12

Raspberrypi4B 2G
AudioInjector Zero sound card HAT
latest raspbian updates including firmware (as of 26.Mar.2021)
Alsa installed alongside PulseAudio on raspbian (the AIZ soundcard doesn't play well with PulseAudio and requires Alsa)

While OAP is running, sound level is lower and there is audio interference. As soon as I exit OAP the sound clears up. This occurs whether I am playing audio files from my iphone SE or from sound files on HDD storage.

I have been consulting with AudioInjector on this and they indicate it is a problem with Raspbian's implementation of PulseAudio. However, it appears there may also be a problem with OAP's configuration of PulseAudio.

Could it be a matter of tweaking PulseAudio (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio)? Not that I would know where to start, sadly.

Actually, I'm starting to think it may be a bluetooth issue. That's the direction I'm looking into. The jumping/crackling I am hearing is almost like clipping from sound spikes, but it does it even at low volume levels, but I don't get it when playing from storage via VLC.

I know it's a very long shot, I had a similar issue on a PC where Bluetooth profiles got mixed up by default and I had to manually switch from HFP/HSP to A2DP all the time.

In my case it is also present when using AA with a cable.
