Wireless AA - No success - Tomadoggy - 01-25-2021

In my install I have a wireless access point in my truck which is a sim card (cellular enabled) router.  During use both my phone and OA are connected to this network and I would like to avoid the USB cable connection between OA and my phone.  I have worked for hours and followed the documentation to get this to work, but with no success.

- latest version of Android Auto installed on phone (5.9.604634)
- In Android Auto "Wireless Android Auto" is turned on
- Both phone and OA Pro are connected to the same WiFi network
- openauto_system.ini modified as shown below
     [Wireless]
     HotspotEnabled=false
     Enabled=true
     Ssid="SSID of my truck WiFi"          (this is the SSID of the access point that both OA and my phone are connected to)
     Bssid=80:2a:a8:86:8b:5f    (this is the MAC address of the access point that both OA and my phone are connected to)
     Key=correct password is entered here to the truck WiFi
     Port=5000
     HotspotBand=0

- From there I go into OA AA System settings and have "Wireless Android Auto" turned on
- Also have "Start Android Auto automatically" turned on
- OA Wireless settings have Hotspot turned off
- Verified that OA is connected to the correct WiFi network and has a valid DHCP lease of 192.168.1.82
- Phone Bluetooth is on and connected to OA Pro
- From Home screen of OA, launch Android Auto, choose IP Address and enter the IP address of my phone's connection to the truck WiFi which is 192.168.1.83, screen comes up that says connecting, then in a second or two...states "Android Auto is currently unavailable"
- Clicking on WiFi in Connect to Android Auto also returns "Android Auto is currently unavailable"

I have gone through as much as I can find...assistance greatly appreciated

Did you follow this instructions: https://bluewavestudio.io/community/showthread.php?tid=1540 ?

Does the AA work with USB connection?

Thank you for that link.  The one additional item that I was not aware of was the developer options in AA to turn on "Add wireless projection to settings" which I enabled.  However the article was quite old and I believe that this option is already enabled in the new version of AA.  That said, I did turn it on and still no wireless connection.

Separately this article is focused on using the "Hotspot" feature which I do NOT want to use.  As stated both my phone and OAP are connected to the cellular network router in my truck which the documentation says is supported for wireless OAP.  This is why I made the modifications to the openauto_system.ini file that I posted.  From other threads this was what purported to work, but not for me.

First, we suggest to check connection with RPI hotspot according to article in order to verify if configuration works with your phone.
Then you can try to narrow issue in your final configuration.

OK, fresh image of OAPro and clean restart on the Pi (4th time now). Still no wireless AA via any of the options even with the Hotspot enabled.

I have followed all of the steps from https://bluewavestudio.io/community/showthread.php?tid=1540 ensuring both the phone AA is properly configured.

My phone IS connected to the OAP hotspot and connected to BT. It does work when tethered via USB but that is it. I have been meticulous in this setup, Please Advise as wireless connection is a must and the main reason I purchased this product. Thank you!

It seems like you do everything correctly (I would also try to only use the Hotspot option and get that working before any truck Wifi). I noticed your phone, check this out:

Can you try with another phone?

Is you WiFi 5GHz or 2.4GHz? Android Auto started accept only 5GHz networks recently.

Yes...that is my current focus, only trying to get the Hotspot option to function first.

Ensured Hotspot is set to 5Ghz, new phone Blackview BV9100, connected to OAP Hotspot and Bluetooth, same exact no connection other than with USB cable.

I am assuming that the IP address to be entered on the OAP connection screen is that of the phone which is connected to the Hotspot...correct?

Just noticed that when I connected this phone to BT on the Pi that a pop-up shows that reads: "Connection failed - No usable services on this device" this message of course shows on the Raspian desktop. This message does NOT appear when connecting my Samsung S10

As you can see at YT movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0OOCjCy8OI there is no need to enter IP address. Could you please follow the steps again with movie support.
Looks like misconfiguration issue.
Are you sure that any of your phones support wireless AA?

RE: Wireless OA - No success - Tomadoggy - 01-26-2021

Yes I am certain both phones support wireless AA as one is Android V10 and the other V11. Both have the developer option enabled to allow wireless AA and are on the latest version of AA.

Per research here is what is stated for Wireless AA "Google’s updated Android Auto support page now notes that “any smartphone with Android 11.0” will be able to connect to Android Auto wirelessly". My Samsung is on Android 11 so, yes support for wireless AA is yes.

I watched your video...if only it were that easy!

I have done fresh installs of OAP several times, followed the steps to the letter and still get Android Auto is Unavailable when touching the WiFi OAP icon within the connect to Android auto. No changes have been made to the openauto_system.ini file, the hotspot is on and set to 5Ghz, the phone is connected to the OAP hotspot, and connected to the OAP Bluetooth. There must be something else....
