steering wheel control question - sclair123 - 07-14-2020

I have this unit which will extend my factory wiring and allow me to keep my SWC if I can manage to do so with your help Smile

The way I think I'd need to do this is monitor for resistance or voltages and identify what each press would equal for the steering wheel controls. A YouTuber "Automate everything" did something to this effect. He then used a preexisting program that monitors the GPIO for these specific ranges of resistance and emulates a keystroke in response.

But I am pretty novice and definitely would love some input about hazards or things to consider when approaching this problem.  Thank you for your time and any help!

what is the unit? what car?

More details would be good, I am working on a standalone controller that will emulate keystrokes and mouse events.

sorry about the late reply. I am a health care worker and recently had some pretty gnarly flu symptoms and have been sleeping for the last three days. Feeling better now so I wanted to try and see if anyone had any ideas.

As for the unit? I think you might be asking about the wiring harness, which is linked above the PAC RP4.2-TY11 Radiopro4 Ty11. I have a Toyota Corolla 2010. this device has wires for steering wheel controls already, it's just a matter of figuring out where to connect them. I have some hope that I can have them on a GPIO pin and then see what voltages each button click gives and then use that to emulate keystrokes.

I am going to call the designer of this product and see if I can't figure out voltages that are supplied through there so I know if it's safe.

Any advice would be great.

Did you ever get this sorted? I have just done it successfully in my Toyota Hilux (Vigo) using and arduino micro if you need help.

I have a 2004 Toyota 4Runner, be curious if anyone was able to figure this out. If so, any instructions or details we can follow.
Would like to maintain my steering wheel controls.
