What is your bootup times? - kirikoglu - 09-24-2019

Hi,

I wondered the OAP users completely boot up time. I mean with saying "complete", for example playing music.

I'm getting under voltage warning. It's reducing CPU I know. I will connect powered USB hub. In this conditions, Raspberry opening takes ~45 seconds. (Raspberry 3B+)

What's yours ?

There is a few way to faster boot time of raspberry. But this may causes the OAP running problems, I think.

What's the best boot up time your raspberries ?

In case of our reference setups, startup does not take longer than 20 seconds. You can have a look at videos on our YouTube channel.

Yes I watched.

Can we configure a few config files for 5-10 seconds ?

In my setup its mostly fast (not shure how long exactly), but I did noticed that sometimes it takes fairly long time to boot (mostly in the morning cold start). Not really sure what's causing it.
I have 332b2 on rpi4b back in my Kia Magentis (my wifes peugeot died, so I bought my old car back).

Mine is taking60 seconds with usb audio device! Without the USB audio device its 30 seconds. 60 sec is almost unusable for me. I want the backup camera to come on almost as soon as it boots. Anyone have ideas to speed up?

Setup:
Raspberry Pi 3 B v1.2
7" pi touchscreen
4amp power supply
OAP 5.0

Just timed my boot time with a stop watch. 65 seconds. in previous OAP 3.3 it was about 25 seconds. So boot time has significantly increased in this version and I am curious as to why. Hardware hasn't changed, I only upgraded versions.
Is anyone else experiencing major boot time increase since updating to 5.0, aside from @benito334 and myself?

Not measured... but noticable after coming from v3.3..2b2 , now on V5.0

Also had these issues, V3.3 was great then V4.0 and V5.0 are much much slower to boot with no other changes.

With reverse camera, i'm finished reversing and half way down the road before it boots.

I'm wondering if it's the boot animation? Does this slow it down? is there a task to kill the animation once everything is booted, or does it wait for the animation to finish then check if it needs to play the loop again?

We have managed to improve boot time for OpenAuto Pro version 5.0

more information can be found here: Boot time in OpenAuto Pro 5.0

on 5.0 systemd-analyze comes in at 56-62 seconds on a Pi 3B+ and 42-45 seconds on a Pi 4.
on 3.2 on a Pi 3B+ it was down around 13-17 seconds.

I've tried Samsung EVO+ 32 and Sandisk Extreme 64..both regarded as top sd cards for a PI, so it's not the media.
(about to dd the root fs /dev/mmcblk0p1 to a usb 3 stick and update root fs in cmdline.txt and see if that helps to improve boot times by offloading rootfs to usb3).

noticeably, pulseaudio is running really high cpu during bootup, 100% for 10 seconds and then staying high during normal operation.
Pulseaudio on OA 5.0 is looking at 33% cpu on a Pi 3B+ and 17% on a Pi 4 with a load avg >1.2 at idle vs 0.2 on OA 3.2
This is with any type of audio device, USB SB DAC, USB FiiO DAC, IQaudio Hat or no DAC at all.

on OA 3.2 on a Pi 3B+ or standard raspian buster( Pi 3 or 4), pulseaudio is < 1% cpu

I'll have to grab a debug of pulseaudio -vvvvv and see what it's doing.
